What Hygge Actually Is: Denmark's Philosophy of Comfort and Why the World Got It Wrong
Since 2016, hygge has been sold to the world as candles, blankets, and hot chocolate. The Danes find this mildly amusing. The actual concept — which has no clean English translation and reflects a specific Danish response to long winters, flat hierarchies, and the psychology of togetherness — is considerably stranger and more interesting than any lifestyle brand has managed to convey.
