Wangala Festival – The Harvest Celebration of the Garo People
The Wangala Festival is a colorful harvest celebration of the Garo tribe in Meghalaya, India. Known as the “Festival of Hundred Drums,” it is held to thank the Sun God Saljong for blessing the people with a successful harvest. During the festival, men beat traditional drums while dancers perform energetic movements in vibrant traditional attire. The rhythmic music, cultural performances, and community gatherings create an atmosphere of joy and unity. Wangala is not just a celebration of agriculture but also a proud expression of Garo heritage, preserving their traditions, spiritual beliefs, and deep connection with nature.
